Powdered graphite and oil-impregnated charcoal pencil on paper
The portrait is a drawing from direct observation in the studio. For this drawing, I experimented with the materials by rubbing dry graphite, then wetting the powdered graphite and applying it with a brush. With a constant search for shapes, I ended up drawing back in with the oil-impregnated charcoal pencil.
